Funny. I meant to shout out, "Here's my chance!" just now, but for some reason it all came out wrong.

Fukuda, FILE: 12 Channeled

Tamotsu Fukuda is one of the protagonists of ID:INVADED. A former serial killer known as "The Perforator", he murdered his victims by drilling holes in their heads, under the belief that he was helping them achieve a new, better state of mind. After his capture by the Kura, he was recruited as a Mizuhanome pilot, assuming the guise of Brilliant Detective Anaido when inside the id wells.

Following the events of FILE: 12 Channeled, Fukuda is left in a comatose state.

Appearance[]

Fukuda is a tall man with chartreuse eyes and long, spiked blue hair combed towards his left. He wore a white shirt, black trousers and matching suspenders, and had multiple silver piercings: three on his left ear, two below his mouth and two above his left eyebrow. When out in public, he wore a green coat with a hood. Since his capture, he has worn a Kura prisoner uniform, consisting of white trousers, a matching shirt, slippers and bracelet on his right wrist.

By far Fukuda's most noticeable feature is the massive scar covering most of the right side of his head, the result of a large portion of his skin being torn off by his drill.[4] Above his right eye is a self-applied hole that goes all the way through his head. He also has several silver piercings above his left eye, on his left ear, and underneath his lip, all of which he seemingly got after his suicide attempt.

Personality[]

Fukuda is somewhat of an outlier compared to other serial killers, his drive to kill rooted in a misplaced form of altruism. After inadvertently curing his arithmomania by drilling a hole in his head, he felt compelled to inflict the same injuries onto others, hoping to share his newfound "enlightenment", despite acknowledging the low survival rate. However, this means that he was the only killer to decline John Walker's offer to kill Kiki Asukai, since he, uniquely, didn't kill for the sole sake of killing, and genuinely believed he was helping people, thus having no interest in "dream holes".

He also willingly cooperates with Kura as a brilliant detective, playing a key role in unmasking John Walker's identity by providing Koharu Hondomachi with valuable information and providing an alternate viewpoint that ultimately proved instrumental. He also saved her from Nahoshi Inami at the cost of falling into a coma, having come to develop a warm relationship with her. However, he still has no issue killing people for his own sake, leaving Yuji Oonuki to be shot in his place and killing two paramedics during his initial escape from the Kura.

Despite his brain damage, Fukuda has shown himself to be an exceptionally composed individual, often presenting himself with an affable, almost casual persona, and is extremely intelligent, even after his suicide attempt, so much so that he was made a brilliant detective after he successfully figured out the nature of the Mizuhanome System by himself, and was both smart and convincing enough to hide the fact that he could retain his memories as Anaido from the Wellside. It's also implied that he was extremely well-read.

As a side effect of his former arithmomania, Fukuda possesses an exceptional memory, at least of events prior to his suicide attempt, able to recall an event's precise date and time. He himself noted however, that his affinity with numbers dropped dramatically after his failed suicide, as intended.

Certain elements of Fukuda's id well and personality, including having all his victims living as a family and calling Akihito Narihisago with familial terms such as "brother" (behaviour mirrored by Anaido), imply that Fukuda, for much of his life, was an exceptionally lonely individual, meaning that his crimes could have been the result of a desire for companionship.

    • The Narihisago family consisted of three members (Akihito Narihisago, Ayako Narihisago and Muku Narihisago).
    • Anaido's design and habits appear to have been built around the number 3 as he:
      • Has three cuffs on his shirt and jacket sleeves.
      • Has three lapels on his jacket front.
      • Has three straps on his back.
      • Has three rings on each of his forefingers.

    • On the official website, Fukuda's Japanese voice actor, Ryouta Takeuchi, is listed third.[1]
    • Fukuda is thirty-three years old by the start of the series.
